Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament Rule Guide

Welcome to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament! Here's a guide to ensure that all matches are fair and enjoyable while giving the losing team a strategic edge.

Live Component Requirement

Location: All players must be physically present at their respective schools to participate in the races.

Live Interaction:

  1. Each player's gameplay area must be supervised via a live video link. Coaches or designated supervisors must log in using one of the approved platforms: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet.

  2. A wired webcam setup is required to show both the player and their gameplay screen, ensuring that interaction between players and coaches is as close to face-to-face as possible.

Verification:

  1. The live feed must be continuous throughout the competition to ensure fairness and adherence to the rules.

  2. Coaches are responsible for monitoring their players and ensuring that all equipment and connection setups comply with the tournament standards.

General Rules

  1. Game Version: The tournament will use the latest version of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

  2. Match Format:

1v1

Best-of-3 matches for initial rounds.

Best-of-5 matches for semi-finals and finals.

  1. Time Limit: Each match will have a 7-minute limit, with a 3-stock count.

  2. Sudden Death: In case of a tie (equal stock and percentage), a 1-stock, 2-minute tiebreaker match will determine the winner.

Stage Selection Rules

  1. Initial Stage Selection:

For the first match in a set, players will use a random selection from the Starter Stages list (see below).

  1. Counterpick Stage Selection:

After the first match, the losing player or team gains the advantage of choosing the stage for the next match from the allowed stages (Starter and Counterpick Stages).

  1. Stage Hazards:

All stages will be played with hazards off.

Opponent Selection Rules

  1. Initial Opponent Selection:

For the first match, each player or team chooses their characters freely without revealing them to their opponents until all characters are locked in.

  1. Counterpick Character Selection:

The winning player of the previous match must reveal their character choice first.

The losing player then selects their character in response.

Allowed Stages

  1. Starter Stages (Available for all matches):

Battlefield

Final Destination

Pokémon Stadium 2

Smashville

Town and City

  1. Counterpick Stages (Available after the first match):

Kalos Pokémon League

Yoshi’s Story

Additional Rules

  1. Sudden Death Exceptions: Self-destruct moves or ties involving these moves will count as losses for the player who initiates them.

  2. Disconnections: If a player disconnects due to network issues, the match is restarted unless one player had a significant lead (stock advantage and low percentage).

  3. Controller Settings: Players may adjust their controller settings before the match.

  4. Coaching: No coaching is allowed between rounds, but players may consult during breaks between matches.
